You might be wondering how we came up with our name, and honestly, it was one of our biggest challenges! We realized that choosing the right name for our studio was really important. We wanted to break away from the usual tattoo studio stereotype and create something unique that tells our story. Finding the right “vibe” became our starting point—we dreamed of a space filled with plants and art, and we knew what we definitely didn’t want.
We started this adventure like we approach any creative project: by stepping out of our comfort zones. We went on little outings around Durbanville, visiting our favourite art galleries, coffee shops, and of course, the plant rescues (aka nurseries where you can adopt a new plant).
As we searched for the perfect name, we started noticing birds making funny, beautiful, and meaningful appearances in our little adventures. It felt like a sign that we should include that element! That’s how the "quill" part came to life—mixing art, ink, and feathers in a fun way.
So we had “Quill,” but we still needed something more—Quill what? Quill Studio… but something still felt off. Back to the drawing board we went! We wanted to include something plant-related that felt feminine and enchanting to match our vibe.
We explored all sorts of plants and even dug into other languages to find a name that clicked. . Eventually, we landed on “Vesper.” This Latin word means "evening star," and it's also a beautiful plant. It checked all the boxes—enchanted, check! Plant, check! Plus, the evening star, Venus, is often associated with femininity, which made it feel like a perfect fit for our studio!
We're super excited to bring this name to life! Every day, we add something new to our studio, whether it’s a cool piece of artwork for the walls, a new plant or propagation we’re starting, or just setting up our spaces. We're really grateful for our new muse and always want to make sure our space is inspiring and safe for everyone.
